Cougar fans love BYU Football’s new uniforms

The year is 1996. BYU football is at its peak and one of college football’s elite programs. Led by head coach LaVell Edwards, the Cougars employ an innovative and dangerous air raid tactic that puts opposing defenses under pressure on a weekly basis.

The 1996 season was one of the best years in program history for the Cougars. They finished the season with a 12-1 record and a Cotton Bowl victory over the No. 14 Kansas State Wildcats. BYU finished ranked No. 5 in the nation thanks to the firepower of players like Steve Sarkisian, Brian McKenzie, Ronnie Jenkins, KO Kealaluhi, Kaipo McGuire and Chad Lewis. This team was loaded – enough said.

For the 2024 season, BYU football is turning back the clock and showcasing some old pieces in a new era. While the team isn’t expected to replicate the success of the ’90s, Cougar fans, young and old, can celebrate the legacy of one of college football’s most storied universities this season.

This uniform will look great at BYU on September 21st. Meeting with Kansas State in a rematch of the 1996 Cotton Bowl. In the throwback uniforms, BYU would look good next to Kansas State’s unchanged jersey designs. You might have to remind your grandfather that the No. 12 at quarterback is not Sarkisian, who now coaches the Texas Longhorns.
