Family mourns woman allegedly shot by her teenage son

SAN ANTONIO – A family is grieving and wondering why one of their relatives was allegedly shot by another family member.

On Tuesday afternoon, San Antonio police said a 16-year-old boy shot his mother in the back of the head with a shotgun in the 1500 block of Delgado Street.

The Bexar County Coroner identified the woman as 37-year-old Luz Aurora Gonzalez.

“I saw them shooting right in front of me. I don’t know why he pulled the trigger,” said Iluminada Torres, the victim’s daughter and sister of the suspect.

The Gonzalez family has an answer to this question: Why would a 16-year-old shoot his mother in the back with a shotgun?

“It feels unbelievable to me that my mother is no longer here,” Torres said.

“Did you say anything to (the younger brother)? Did (the younger brother) say anything to you after it happened?” asked KSAT John Paul Barajas

“He didn’t answer me. I asked him why he did that and he didn’t answer me,” Torres said.

The family explained that it was a complicated dynamic.

Teresa Salazar is the victim’s mother and the suspect’s grandmother. Salazar cares for most of Gonzalez’s children and says she has a restraining order against Gonzalez but still allows her to stay in the house occasionally.

“I love her very much,” Salazar said.

“What was your relationship with her?” asked Barajas

“There were good times and there were bad times,” Salazar said

Regarding the events of the shooting, Salazar says she cannot remember anything from the last 24 hours.

“My brother starts getting upset, I don’t know why, but then they sit down and start talking, and my mother starts raising her voice to my grandma, and then everything escalated,” said

Now the family must deal with the many emotions that come with the loss of a loved one and the accusation of another for murder.

“Iluminada, did you just say something to your brother? Did you just say something to your mother?” asked Barajas.

“I will miss her very much,” Torres said.
