Which DQ Blizzard flavor do South Dakota residents love the most?

South Dakotans love their snowstorms, and to be clear, I don’t mean the blizzards that this state experiences so frequently from December to April each year. Although I know there are plenty of people in this state who love these snowstorms too, and if you ask me, they should all consider getting their heads examined, but I digress.

South Dakota residents and most other residents of the other 49 states love Dairy Queen Blizzards no matter what time of year, especially during the hot summer months.

According to Dakota News Now, researchers at GCU (Grand Canyon University) have just finished analyzing Google search trends over the past 20 years to determine the most popular flavor of Dairy Queen Blizzard in each state and which flavors are most in demand across the country.

If you want to know what Blizzard lovers like here in the Midwest, the Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard is the favorite in the Hawkeye State. Iowa residents like it the most. North Dakota residents seem to prefer the Oreo Cookie flavor.

Minnesotans and all of us South Dakotans love Snickers Blizzard, and oddly enough, we’re the only two states in the country that prefer this flavor of candy bar.

The Blizard first appeared on Dairy Queen’s menu in 1985. Since then, the Turtle Pecan Cluster Blizzard has been the undisputed leader in 13 different states, making it the most popular Blizzard flavor in the country. Closely followed by the Oreo Cookie Blizzard, which currently tantalizes the taste buds of residents in 11 other states.

The GCU results showed that every state in the US, with the exception of Vermont, has a favorite flavor.

So what’s up with Vermonters? They’ve been extremely loyal to the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream brand since it was born in the state. Because of this, Vermont is the only state where the most popular DQ Blizzard flavor can still be found.

Personally, I love the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Blizzard, for me it’s just a really good meal.
