Lana Del Rey and Quavo preview the song “Tough”

Is “Tough” by Lana Del Rey and Quavo coming soon? The couple unexpectedly teased the new track on Wednesday evening (June 19th) and left fans of both artists shaking in the comments on Instagram.

Quavo posted a clip of “Tough” that, well, is hard to get out of your head once you press play. He tagged Lana in the post.

Together they sing: “Hard as the scarf on a pair of old leather boots/ Like the attitude of a working man in the red dust/ Like a brass .38/ Hard as the stuff in my grandfather’s glass/ Life will do what it does/ As sure as the good Lord up there/ Cut like a diamond in the rough, tough as nails.”

A release date for “Tough” has not yet been announced. Billboard I have contacted representatives for comment.

Although no details were known at press time, fans were delighted to hear a preview of the new song on Tuesday night.

“The way you can mix genres seamlessly without it seeming like a gimmick is TALENT!! That sounds so good,” praised one follower, while another chimed in, “Nope, that sounds crazy.” Someone compared it to the kind of top-notch pairing you get “when the teacher picks for the group project.”

“Oh, the roots of my lust for life are trembling,” wrote one Lana fan, referring to the singer-songwriter’s 2017 album, which featured A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti, among others.

Quavo uploaded a short snippet of “Tough” to Instagram last month, but Lana’s vocal hook hasn’t been shared until now. In this first clip of the song, posted on May 9, the Migos star talks over an acoustic guitar-and-trap beat outro, with Lana in the background. He tells her, “I’ll show you everything… Come ride with me. Whenever. Whenever you’re ready, call me.”

“If you’re from where you’re from, then you were born… tough luck!” he captioned the post, which showed a Polaroid of the two hanging out on the porch of a house.

Lana — who recently talked about an upcoming country album, lassothe successor to the 2023 Did you know there is a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard?which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 – is scheduled to perform at Boston’s Fenway Park on Thursday (June 20). She’s already hitting the festival circuit this spring and summer, having played Coachella, Hangout, I-Days and Primavera Sound this year, with Reading, Leeds and Rock en Seine still to come. The one-off, sold-out show at Fenway will be her first U.S. concert as a stadium headliner.
