Michigan Matters: The three largest county managers comment on politics and business

(CBS) – Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter appear on CBS Detroit’s “Michigan Matters” to discuss politics, economics and more in a special episode.

The three highest elected county commissioners who essentially govern the Metro Detroit region discussed the presidential campaign and what incumbent Joe Biden and former Republican President Donald Trump, who is challenging him, need to do to win Michigan, a crucial state in the race.

Evans spoke about the importance of African American voices.

Hackel recounted a conversation we had at a Detroit Regional Chamber event in early May, where he raised the possibility of him running for governor of Michigan, given incumbent Gretchen Whitmer’s term limits.

Evans mentioned that he was not interested in running for mayor of Detroit, as some had speculated. He also talked about bringing Metro Detroit Airport, Detroit City Airport and others together in other ways.

Coulter, who is running for re-election this November, reported on moving his district’s offices to downtown Pontiac and how 3D imaging is helping reinvent businesses.

Hackel provided an update on Selfridge and his attempt to get more federal funding for it.

Watch “Michigan Matters” at the new time: Sundays at 5:30 a.m. on CBS Detroit, Sundays at 12:00 p.m. on Detroit 50 (WKBD)
