Spurs make waves in offseason with Chris Paul

Happy Monday, Por Vida fans! Welcome to your morning Spurs Starter.

The idea of the San Antonio Spurs acquiring talent in the offseason, aside from the NBA Draft, has long been speculated upon, with one of the main questions being whether the young team would sign an up-and-coming star or a true veteran.

Both ideas were discussed on Sunday evening.

The Spurs spoke with Chris Paul and agreed to have the 19-year-old point guard sign a one-year, $11 million contract with the Silver & Black. The contract can be officially signed on July 6 at 12:01 p.m.

Paul isn’t putting up the numbers he did in his prime, but he’s strong in the locker room and a good mentor to Victor Wembanyama and UConn Spurs rookie point guard Stephon Castle. The time he spends on the court is a bonus, as he can really run an offense full of young stars and show them how it’s done.

The point guard has been linked to San Antonio before, including during last offseason and at the trade deadline, but those rumors were never confirmed. Now the Spurs have officially signed him.

The “Point God” is officially a spur.
