In Apprentice in Wonderlandthe new book about the former president of diversityIn Ramin Setoodeh, Trump reflects in detail on his encounters with Debra Messing, with whom the author says that the ex-apprentice Host has an ‘obsession’. Setoodeh says Trump mentioned Messing several times during their conversations and at one point admitted he was attracted to her.

“This Debra Messing, who I always found quite attractive – not that it matters, of course… Debra Messing was so grateful,” he says. “And then I look at her today and it’s like she’s a complete wreck.”

Debra Messing and Donald Trump

Messing has been one of Trump’s most vocal celebrity critics since he first ran for office in the mid-2010s. The actress has repeatedly used social media to denounce Trump’s policies, which appear to have a profound impact on him.

Trump says he first met Messing at NBC’s upfronts in May 2004 or 2005. “Debra Messing approached me,” the former president recalls. “She had a show at a similar time,” he says. Will and Grace.

“She came up to me with her beautiful red hair,” Trump continues. “And she said, ‘Sir – I love you! Thank God for you! You’re saving the network and you’re saving my show.’ Because in this world, which I know a lot about now, it makes a huge difference when you have a hit, a lead-in.”

The author notes that Will and Grace actually broadcast before The Apprentice on Thursday night, so that the sitcom would theoretically boost the reality competition’s viewership, and not the other way around. “A lead-in – or a lead-out,” Trump corrects himself.

Donald Trump

Trump again remembers Messing’s gratitude.

“She was so grateful,” he says. “She said, ‘I can’t thank you enough.’ Do you believe that? I watched her. And I say, ‘She would do anything for me.'” He finds Messing’s repeated condemnations of his political career a surprising betrayal. “She was so effusive,” he says. “And when I see the hatred that comes out of her mouth today, it’s unbelievable.”

The former president also claims that Messing will not confirm his anecdote about her.

“She probably wouldn’t even admit it,” Trump says. “She came up to me in front of a group of people. I’ve never seen that before. She was begging for recognition! … ‘Thank you so much for what you’ve done for me, my show and for NBC. I’ll never forget that.'”

In Trump’s eyes, Messing broke her promise. “Now,” he says, “that was forgotten. She was just a nasty person. She and many others were too. So many people have come up to me over the years and said ‘Thank you!’ When I ran for office, that stopped.”
