Lauryn Hill and her son YG Marley made the 2024 BET Awards another family reunion.

On Sunday, June 30, the mother-son duo performed together at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Hill, 49, began the performance with a soulful rendition of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” – the title track of her legendary 1998 album.

Wearing a flowing black dress, yellow cape, sunglasses and a shimmering headpiece, the Grammy winner performed her first song before moving into her single “Lost Ones,” and the crowd cheered as they sang along to the song from her classic R&B and reggae-influenced album. Hill also appeared to freestyle a stirring verse about activism and equality—similar to her May performance on The Tonight Show, in which her son Marley also starred.

Shortly after, the artist’s son – who is also the grandson of reggae icon Bob Marley – took the stage to perform his recently released single “Survival.” The song, which features Hill as a songwriter and uses an interpolation of his grandfather’s 1979 song “Ambush in the Night,” then segued into a performance of his 2023 track “Praise Jah in the Moonlight.”

Hill’s Fugees bandmate Wyclef Jean then joined the duo on stage to end the awards ceremony with his 1995 rap song “Fu-Gee-La.”

This time, the Fugees Rhyme singer will reunite with her bandmates and co-headliners Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, with Marley joining as a special guest.

Hill announced the new tour dates on Monday, June 24, telling his fans on social media: “The celebration continues…”

The announcement of the new tour comes almost a year after the 25th anniversary of Hill’s debut album, which earned her meteoric critical acclaim and continued to be considered a seminal work in the years that followed.

In May, Apple Music crowned Hill’s album at No. 1 on its inaugural list of the 100 greatest albums of all time and honored her with a special dinner. In a statement, she said of the achievement: “This is my award, but it is a rich, deep story involving so many people, and so much sacrifice, so much time, and so much shared love.”

The 2024 BET Awards will air live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
