BET Awards 2024: Victoria Monét wins Video of the Year and BETHer awards | News

It was a monumental evening for award-winning singer-songwriter Victoria Monét at BET Awards 2024, hosted by Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson.

The 35-year-old artist opened the evening by winning the prestigious “BETHer” award for her hit single “On My Mama”. This award, which recognizes motivational and encouraging songs about women, marked a significant milestone in Monét’s career, as it was her first BET Award win.

The singer accepted the award alongside her mother. “This is truly incredible. It’s a huge honor to receive this award, especially the ‘BET Her’ award, because I’m so proud to be a black woman. This is the woman I gave it to. This is my mom,” the singer said as she accepted the award.

She continued, “I just want to give a shout out to everyone that’s in this category… I’m so glad to be here and I know I just want to say that we really need each other. We need to support each other. We need to collaborate with a happy face. So I would love to collaborate with every black female artist in this room and make this anthem together that’s going to break the internet. I know we need that.”

Monét concluded her speech by thanking her mother, BET and women around the world.

The moment was presented by the cast of the sixth season of BET’s College Hill: Celebrity Editionincluding Tamar Braxton, Claudia Jordan, Cheeky Santanaand more.

This singer returned to the stage for an electrifying debut performance of her award-winning song, followed by her latest single, “Alright.” Her energy and stage presence had the crowd on their feet.

The night continued to be brilliant for Monét and she secured her second BET Award, winner of the “Video of the Year”, presented by the actress Niecy Nash Betts and her wife, Jessica Betts.

Monét thanked director CHILD and the video’s choreographer, Sean Bank. “You are so much more than a choreographer. You are a visionary; you are a multitasker because you are always booked. And you are a great friend. You have the Midas touch. Thank you for elevating my performance and making me better,” she said.

She continued, “To all the dancers who were part of the music video. I want the world to understand how important you are and how much power you have to help a song break through and make it successful.”

“Everyone in the room needs to understand that, because I need pay that reflects that importance. But I can’t do this alone; artists can’t do this alone. We need leaders, we need brands, we need unions. And we need to protect our dancers and our future dancers so they can make this a sustainable career,” she added.

Monet ended her speech by thanking her team, her mother and daughter Hazel, and BET.
