Olly Murs announces he has been fired after six years as a judge on The Voice: “I am devastated!”

Olly Murs was fired as a judge on “The Voice”.

The 39-year-old “Up” singer joined the ITV series six years ago alongside fellow judges Sir Tom Jones (83), Will.i.am (48) and Jennifer Hudson (42). But he has now said how “devastated” he was after being told last week that he would no longer be able to sit in his red swivel chair.

He told The Sun: “I’m devastated. I got the call last week saying I wasn’t going to be on the show anymore and to be honest it was a bit of a shock. I wasn’t really expecting it.”

“But I don’t want to sit here, like other artists might do, and sugarcoat everything and say, ‘It was my decision.’ I don’t want to do that.

“I don’t want to rip off my fans or the people who watch the show and say, ‘Oh, it was a mutual decision to leave – I have a lot going on next year and I can’t do it anymore.’

“No. I sincerely accept their decision and I’m sure they will find someone great. But will I miss it? Yes.

“Did I want to go? No. Will I still watch the show? Of course, but the thought that it could have been me will hurt…”

According to The Sun, Olly accidentally has to attend the launch of the new “Voice” series in October.

He is dropped despite leading two singers to victory on the show.

Olly added: “I still have a great relationship with ITV and I don’t think it was their decision as such – it was probably more (production company) Talpa’s.

“They told my team they were looking for new people. I don’t know if anyone knows yet, but I’m really going to miss Tom, especially because I was very close to him.

“I’m going to miss drinking champagne with him after the show and chatting about life stories, but hopefully if he’s reading this, he might get in touch.

“I loved ‘The Voice’ and will always remember my first day on set – how nervous I was sitting in that big, red, scary chair.

“But I felt like a fish in water and I really enjoyed it. I’m really going to miss it.

“I loved the people behind the scenes, the coaches, everyone involved, and I’m really sorry not to do it again, but you have to move on, right?

“I’ve had setbacks in my career, but I’m going to get through it. Something exciting is going to happen.”

“But this year has been so positive for me that I always thought something bad could happen… and I guess it did.”

Olly added that he was able to bounce back from ITV’s cancellation as he was looking forward to opening for Take That’s upcoming 21-date UK tour.
