The story behind the TikTok-famous Wakefield liquor store that sells Prime

Viral liquor retailer Wakey Wines’ account has been restored after being banned from TikTok.

The account, which promoted Prime drinks worth up to £100 each, was mistakenly deleted for violating policies but has now been restored.

Wakefield Wines, a liquor store in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, gained more than 500,000 followers on TikTok after it went viral for claiming to sell Logan Paul and KSI’s drinks at extortionate prices.

Shop owner Mohammed Azar Nazir shares videos of his customers singing along to his catchphrases: “What’s the best shop in Wakey? Wakey Wines,” “Abdul, come closer, Abdul, go back,” and “Bingo bingo, gala bingo.”

Its customers reportedly travel hundreds of miles to get their hands on the Prime drink, which sells out quickly in supermarkets where it costs around £2 a bottle. The liquor store is also known for selling its WFD sweets.

But Nazir’s TikTok success was thrown into disarray on Monday, January 9, when Wakey Wines’ account was banned from the social media platform. Nazir confirmed the ban on Sunday, January 8.

“Hi guys, today a well-known influencer is trying to damage my business that I have been building for years,” said a statement from Wakey Wines posted on Instagram.

“I’ve now been banned from TikTok at 500,000 (followers), I worked so hard for it.”

He added, “All my videos are for fun. I, like any other businessman, saw a business idea involving WFD sweets and grabbed the opportunity.

“Some jealous, horrible people. Please report these posts and help me! I always thank my fans, Wakey Wines.”

However, on Monday, the account was restored. A TikTok spokesperson said: “We are open about the fact that we don’t get every moderation decision right and have restored the Wakey Wines account. We hope they continue to use TikTok to promote their business.”

The store has been criticized for selling the Prime drinks well above the recommended retail price.

Nazir claims that the markup on the deals is small and that he pays his supplier “a fortune.”

KSI, who co-founded Prime Drink with YouTuber Logan Paul, told fans: “No, don’t pay that much for Prime. I know people want Prime, okay, just wait or camp out at Asda nice and early, get into Asda nice and early and pay £2, okay, £2 for Prime.”

However, some social media users have speculated that Wakey Wines is not actually selling the bottles of Prime for £100 and that it is merely a marketing gimmick.

In a video celebrating his return to the platform, Nazir thanked his supporters for helping him get the account “back up and running” and also used the moment to promote his WFD candy.
