The upcoming Netflix anime adaptation presents a huge live-action challenge that will not be easy to solve

Although Kakegurui’s premise is relatively simplethere is one thing in the manga that will be very difficult to reproduce in the live-action show.

Netflix’s BET must translate Kakegurui’s visual style into live action

Kakegurui and its spin-offs have a very distinctive visual style that is not so easy to reproduce in live action. Both the manga and the anime series transform what is supposed to be a simple card game – or some other kind of gambling – into a dynamic, high-stakes battle of the mind between two or more characters. Although Kakegurui is technically more grounded than anime like One piece or Death Note, it turns something ordinary into something extraordinary thanks to its visual style. From the lighting to what is going on in the characters’ heads, KakeguruiThe game sequences are very intense.

Although not much is known about Netflix’ BET Show, most live-action anime adaptations so far have tried to make their source material more realistic. If such an approach works for Kakegurui, It will be interesting to see how BET will display his gambling sequences. Hollywood has made countless movies and shows about banking and gambling in general, but none of them compare to Kakegurui‘s visual style.
