Katrina And The Waves singer predicts Britain will ‘not lose’ Eurovision Song Contest

The Katrina And The Waves frontwoman said: “I don’t think we’ll come last this year,” as British entrant Olly Alexander prepares for the Eurovision Song Contest final.

Katrina Leskanich was the last British winner of the competition, having sung with British rock band Love Shine A Light in 1997.

On Saturday, Years And Years star Alexander hopes to impress with his song “Dizzy” at the final of the competition at the Malmo Arena in Sweden.

“We’re not going to lose, we’re not going to finish last,” Leskanich, 64, told Ken Bruce about Britain on his “Greatest Hits” radio show, which airs Friday.

“I think we were teased because Sam Ryder was so close and then last year was a bit of a flop – we’ll keep that discreetly quiet,” she said, referring to British entrant Mae Muller, who came second to last with her track “I Wrote A Song.”

Leskanich continued: “I don’t think we’ll finish last this year, I don’t think so.

“I think Olly’s song has a lot of potential.”

However, the Eurovision winner was not convinced that Great Britain would win the title.

When asked if she thought Britain would win, she replied: “I wouldn’t say that because I’ve heard the other songs, the competition is tough.”

“I think there are two ways to win the competition and either way you get goosebumps. I think ‘Love Shine A Light’ gave me some goosebumps because it was kind of a special moment.”

“At that time there was a great mood towards Great Britain.

“I think you can also win if you try it with the Finnish band Lordi. They put a couple of old guys in masks… that’s also a way to win.”

The detailed interview with the singer of Katrina And The Waves will be broadcast on Friday from 10 a.m. on Ken Bruce’s Greatest Hits radio show.
