Empty Bottle Presents has unveiled Warm Love Cool Dreams, a new festival taking place at The Salt Shed on September 28th and 29th. Inspired by a quote from Nelson Algren that states: “Come down here, where everything is warm love and cool dreams forever,” The event promises a varied lineup.

Similar to Coachella’s curated schedules, this festival will be uniquely structured with different artists each day. What makes this festival unique, however, is that it has two distinct themes. The first is Warm Love with its vibrant, avant-garde, experimental and metal sounds. Artists performing under this theme include Sextile, King Woman, Provoker, Bendik Giske, Aitis Band, Stress Positions and last but not least, The Jesus Lizard.

The Jesus Lizard is the headliner and this is their first show in Chicago in over six years. The Jesus Lizard was formed in 1987 in Austin, Texas and consists of singer David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison and bassist David Wm. Sims. The band is celebrated for their influential role in the noise rock genre and is known for intense and unforgettable live performances. Their albums Goat (1991) and Liar (1992) are considered two of the most important albums of the 90s. In particular, they have announced the release of their new album, framewhich is due to be released on September 13th, is their first studio album since 1998. Blue.

Sunday’s theme – Cool Dreams – presents calm, atmospheric music with a lineup led by Kelela. Known for her 2013 mixtape Cut for me and critically acclaimed album from 2017 Take me apartKelela returned after a nearly five-year break with her album 2023 Crow. Floating Points, Sister Nancy and Shabaka will all be bringing soft, atmospheric sounds. Additional performances from 454, John Glacier and SML will add to the relaxed atmosphere of the day.

When developing the festival concept, Brent Heyl wanted to create two distinct musical experiences, saying, “The simplicity and beauty of warm love and cool dreams guided our selection to showcase artists we love in a unique, concise format.”
