Marjorie Taylor Greene says Democratic abortion policy puts the US on a par with communist North Korea and China: They are the “extremists”

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has criticized the Democratic Party’s abortion policies, comparing them to those of China and North Korea.

What happened: Greene condemned the Democrats’ stance on abortion in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday. She accused them of supporting “cruel late-term abortions” and a policy that would allow abortions “up to birth and even afterward.” She compared these policies to those of the “communist governments in China and North Korea.”

Why it is important: In the past, misleading posts surfaced claiming that 49 Democratic senators voted to legalize the killing of full-term babies shortly before birth. This was inaccurate. Experts clarified that third-trimester abortions are extremely rare and usually occur due to severe fetal abnormalities. The bill in question maintained the current constitutional standard, allowing states to restrict abortions after fetal viability with exceptions related to the life or health of the mother, AP reported.

Greene’s comments come amid a heated debate about abortion rights in the US. The issue is a major point of contention between Democrats and Republicans. Republicans are calling for more reproductive rights, while Republicans are calling for more restrictive laws.

Greene’s comments also follow a series of recent events that have reignited the national debate about abortion. In March Donald Trump openly expressed his pride in overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which had a significant impact on the reproductive rights of women across the country. Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Trump for his stance on overturning the Roe vs. Wade ruling and accused him of depriving women of their right to choose.

At the beginning of the year, President Joe Biden promised, if re-elected, to restore Roe v. Wade as a federal right to abortion and stressed the importance of electing members of Congress who support abortion rights.
