Ryan Coogler goes to Universal for the comic book film “A Vicious Circle”

As I just saw on X, Ryan Coogler is currently working at WB with Michael B. Jordan on their own version of Marvel’s Blade, and now it has been announced that Coogler is working at Universal Pictures on the comic book movie. A vicious circle.

Blame Coogler for Black Panther?

Of course, Coogler led the two billion dollar Black Panther Movies at Marvel. I have seen more than one or two fans calling Coogler Wakanda foreverwhich is terrible in my opinion.

Fans are rightly upset that Marvel didn’t recast after Chadwick Boseman died, and some are blaming Coogler. However, I doubt Coogler is to blame, and I think it’s Disney/Marvel who didn’t recast.

A vicious circle

Anyway, as for Universal Pictures’ comic book movie, THR announced that Ryan Coogler is teaming up with Mattson Tomlin on the adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic. A vicious circle.

Tomlin wrote the comic and is writing the screenplay for the film. Coogler’s production company Proximity Media is producing. The director has not yet been announced.

Mattson Tomlin was co-author The Batman Films with Matt Reeves, and he is behind the upcoming Terminator Anime that will hopefully be well received. He also writes the HBO Game of Thrones spin off Aegon’s Conquest.

A vicious circle is described as “John Wick meets Loopers“ and is said to be a “two-person action thriller about assassins from the future chasing each other through time.”

Here’s the comic description and there’s even a trailer. Watch below.

Shawn Thacker is a trained assassin from the future seeking revenge on the only other man with his disease – each life they take forces them both to involuntarily travel between vastly different past and future eras. From 22nd century Tokyo to 1950s New Orleans to the Cretaceous period and beyond, the two mortal rivals are locked in a million-year battle of wills to change the course of history.

Legendary artist Lee Bermejo adapts his artistic style to each era to honor famous comic book artists and historical master painters and present them in a prestigious, oversized format.
