Ranking the next Michigan football candidates for 2025

Ranking the next Michigan football candidates for 2025

Michigan’s football team has had a recruiting boom in June, but as the month of June draws to a close and the recruiting break begins in earnest, the work the Wolverines put in in June should continue to pay off.

There have been some twists and turns, however. While there have been several firm commitments, those who seemed to favor the maize and blue during their official visits now appear to be heading elsewhere. Several others who have not yet made up their minds appear to be more of a 50-50 proposition, currently leaning either toward the Wolverines or slightly away from them.

Here’s when Michigan destination states will make their decisions.

We attempt to answer the perennial question, “Who will be the next Michigan football player?” by not only suggesting five candidates for possible commitments, but also by ranking them based on their likelihood of becoming the next Michigan player.

Destrehan (La.) three-star WR Phillip Wright III

Wright seems to want to make a decision sooner rather than later, and Ron Bellamy has done an excellent job scouting for talent in his home state. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Wolverines have a significant lead, and with Georgia (the previous front-runner) at full strength, Michigan seems the likely choice.

2

Princeton (NJ) Hun School Four-Star LB Kamar Archie

On3 Industry Ranking: No. 261 in total

There are rumors that the next addition will be on the defensive end, and Wink Martindale is telling Michigan football fans to buckle up. Although DL coach Lou Esposito suggests with eye emojis that it could be a defensive lineman, Archie may decide sometime this week, and since he has a high school teammate at Michigan (DL Owen Wafle), it stands to reason that Archie is close to committing to the Wolverines.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Rutgers is currently in the lead.

Danville (California) San Ramon Valley Four-Star EDGE Marco Jones

On3 Industry Ranking: No. 151 in total

Back to the eyes emoji: Although Marco Jones just got a 247Sports crystal ball and a prediction on On3 that he will choose Texas A&M, he’s probably the only candidate for the Wolverines’ defensive line who is an obvious fit for the team at this point. He makes his decision on Tuesday, so we’ll know more shortly.

4

Center Valley (Pa.) Southern Lehigh four-star TE Andrew Olesh

On3 Industry Ranking: No. 115 in total

Olesh seemed like a sure bet for Michigan’s class when Penn State dropped out, but Alabama has been very competitive with him. The Wolverines still have a significant lead on him in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, and Olesh will decide soon, but it may be a week or two before we know what his choice will be.

Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley Northwest five stars OT Andrew Babalola

On3 Industry Ranking: No. 21 overall

It appears to be a battle between Michigan and Stanford, with the Wolverines seeing a recent uptick in his recruitment. Stanford is still near the top in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, but the latest information seems to favor the maize and blues. According to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, Babalola could make a decision in the coming weeks.
