Shifty Shellshock’s family breaks their silence after the death of the Crazy Town singer

Shifty Shellshock’s family has spoken out after the Crazy Town frontman died of an accidental drug overdose.

In an emotional statement to The Sun on Saturday, they remembered the late singer, whose real name was Seth Binzer.

“For Seth, the world was art – he loved every part of it, from music and fashion to graffiti, skateboarding and his hometown of Los Angeles,” the statement began. “He loved his three boys more than anything and his devotion to his music and his fans never wavered.”

The family noted that Shellshock “has struggled with addiction throughout his life and has done so on a very public platform, which has been particularly challenging for him.”

“God knows he tried so hard to conquer his demons, but sadly he lost the battle,” they continued. “We are heartbroken by his loss. Seth’s larger than life presence touched so many. Seth was a tortured soul, but he was beautiful and had a heart of gold.”

“He will live on in his three sons, of whom he was most proud: Halo, Gage and Phoenix,” the statement concluded.

Shellshock died on June 24 at his residence in Los Angeles. He was 49 years old.

Crazy Town’s manager Howie Hubberman confirmed that the singer died of an accidental drug overdose.

“Seth Binzer never got to deal with his addictions on a more successful level with ‘Butterfly’ after his battle with addiction and the quick success of Crazy Town,” Hubberman told PEOPLE. “We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, otherwise Shifty would still be here.”

Shellshock’s struggle with addiction was brought to the public’s attention when he appeared on the first and second seasons of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

While participating in the reality show, he was addicted to cocaine and stimulants.

He also appeared in both seasons of the Celebrity Rehab sequel series Sober House in 2009 and 2010.

The “Butterfly” singer spoke about his addiction and how it affected his career on the podcast “The Punk Rock MBA” in March 2023.

“I think I was too wild to stick with it for long,” Shellshock said. “I managed to survive a lot of crazy shit and got to the point where I was like, ‘I want to live.'”

“It’s a whole new way of life that you have to learn slowly,” he added. “To do it right, you have to do more than just want to do it. Now, every day is just about finding inner peace and taking care of yourself.”
