Cheryl Cole reveals: Her son is happy to have famous parents

Cheryl Cole has revealed that her son with Liam Payne thinks it’s “pretty cool” to have famous parents.

In an interview with British Vogue about Girls Aloud’s reunion tour, the 40-year-old star admitted that while she tried to keep her six-year-old son grounded, he had become aware of his celebrity lineage.

“The problem is that I want Bear to have a normal childhood,” Cheryl explained. “I don’t want people to recognise him on the street. But he has noticed that I’m famous. The other day he said, ‘How lucky am I to have famous parents?’ I said, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ He said, ‘Yeah. But it’s pretty cool.'”

Cheryl and former One Direction star Liam dated for two years before going their separate ways in 2018, and remained on good terms for the sake of their son.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Cheryl has reunited with her Girls Aloud bandmates Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh for a UK and Ireland tour to celebrate their back catalogue.

The band has no plans to release new music, but will treat fans to their biggest hits when their tour begins in May next year.

Plans to tour to mark their 20th anniversary had been discussed some time ago, but were put on hold following the death of bandmate Sarah Harding in 2021.

During an interview on Heart Radio on Thursday morning, Cheryl explained that Sarah was fully on board with the reunion plans.

“I spoke to Sarah in person once, but that was in the later stages when she was really unwell,” Cheryl recalled. “She said to me, ‘I hope you four do something while I’m not here,’ and at that moment I couldn’t have that conversation. I tried to keep her awake.”

Girls Aloud described the reunion tour as a tribute to Sarah, who died of breast cancer at the age of 39, and stressed that her original vocals would be retained in the band’s live performances.
