People are addicted to a new crime drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and fans are begging Apple TV to “just release all the episodes”.

Gyllenhaal has delivered some incredible film performances – I think Donnie Darko, Nightcrawler and Southpaw – However, this is the 43-year-old’s first television role.

And according to the fans, it’s a great achievement.

In the original Apple TV series, he plays a lawyer suspected of murder From presumption of the innocentwhich first appeared on the streaming service on June 12th and contains new episodes weekly.

The series is based on the 1987 novel of the same name and is about Gyllenhaal’s character Rusty Sabich.

Sabich is a prosecutor who finds himself the main suspect in the murder of one of his colleagues.

The thriller series is still running; four of the show’s eight episodes are currently available on AppleTV+.

Even though the show is only halfway over, fans are already praising it for what an “emotional rollercoaster” it already is.

One commenter on Facebook highly recommends the series: “I started watching it last night!! It’s SO good!”

“I watch it Tuesday/Wednesday at midnight when it’s on,” revealed another fan of the series.

A third said: “The acting is great, especially from Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard.”

The series, directed by Gyllenhaal, is not the first adaptation of the 1987 novel. Some commentators have taken the opportunity to compare the series with the 1990 film adaptation starring Harrison Ford.

“The original film with Harrison Ford was great too,” said one commentator.

Another was even more harsh in his comparison, saying bluntly: “The original with Harrison Ford was so much better.”

Other fans have expressed their interest and enjoyment in the show, but are not happy with the weekly release model.

“Man these weeks hurt, I wish I could watch it all in one go. It’s so good and the actors are great,” complained one commenter.

Another commented similarly: “Great show, but I hate having to wait a week for the next episode.”

Many have complained about the move away from the binge model, as some streaming services have released episodes on a much more frequent weekly basis in recent years.

From presumption of the innocent is the first time Gyllenhaal plays a recurring character in a television series.
