GLADIATOR 2 is hyped as a film with the “greatest action sequences ever” — GeekTyrant

Paramount Pictures recently showed some footage of Ridley Scott‘S Gladiators 2 at the CineEurope 2024 trade fair and was the main event of its presentation.

While we got to see some impressive footage from the film at CinemaCon, according to Variety, attendees at CineEurope were treated to epic and never-before-seen extended footage from the film.

Before the footage was shown, Scott said in a video introduction that this sequel was “worth the wait.” Paramount’s president of international theatrical distribution, Mark Vianealso heavily promoted the film, saying that it contained some of the “greatest action sequences of all time”.

That’s a lot of hype! While I’m sure the film will have some epic action sequences, I doubt they will be the biggest ever filmed. There are so many incredibly epic action sequences that have been put into films and I don’t see how anything could top what The Lord of the Rings delivered.

There are so many movies with massive action sequences that it’s hard to believe that Gladiator 2 will be the biggest action scene of all time. But we’ll have to wait and see.

The sequel revolves around Lucius, the son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus, the son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius, who murdered his father and ascended the throne.

Commodus lost in gladiatorial combat to Maximus, who, despite being mortally wounded, defeated the emperor before dying to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucius and his mother and left a lasting impression on the boy.

Scott revealed some additional details about the story, especially about Lucius, who is played by Paul Mescal in the film, saying, “(Lucius) has been…let’s see, the last time we saw him was when he was 12.”

He added: “It’s been about 12, 15 years, he’s in the wild and he’s lost contact with his mother. His mother has lost contact with him. She doesn’t know where he is. She thinks he might be dead.”

The movie stars Paul Mescal as Lucius, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen back as Lucilla, and Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn as Emperor Caracalla. Fred Hechinger will play Emperor Geta.

The film will be in theaters on November 22nd!
