“I’m just so proud”: Sophia Bush reveals on the Rewatch podcast that she fell in love with One Tree Hill

The television series “One Tree Hill” premiered in 2003 and aired on WB until 2012. On June 27, fans of the podcast “Drama Queens” were able to hear 41-year-old Sophia Bush and her former co-stars talk about their experiences on the show.

Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz were among the cast. Sophia said she enjoyed the film even more after rewatching it as an adult.

Bush and her colleagues looked back on their time on the show, recalling key events on and off camera, and talked about how One Tree Hill influenced their friendships and personal and professional growth.

Impact of One Tree Hill

She mentioned that she gained a new perspective on the stories by viewing them from the perspective of adulthood and life experience. This rewatching helped her rediscover the importance of the show, especially in terms of her own development and career.

Throughout the episode, Sophia, Bethany and Hilarie spoke about their experiences working together, highlighting the long-lasting friendships they formed on set and praising the show’s lasting impact on their lives and its place in pop culture.

If they hadn’t started their podcast, Bush would never have agreed to return to their jobs. She said this may have been the first time she really fell in love with the show and was amazed at how it reignited her interest. She said she wanted to create an episode based on that feeling she discovered.

They exuded a strong sense of pride and ownership, as if they had created something truly extraordinary. Bush also imagined the thrill of visiting another world, recording a show there and absorbing the local culture.

The WB launched One Tree Hill in 2003 and the series ran for nine years until the end of 2012. The show’s original plot revolved around estranged brothers Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty), who both wanted to become basketball stars and win their father’s love.

Departure from One Tree Hill

Bush and Lenz were recurring characters throughout the series’ run. Bush described her ordeal in detail, saying, “I felt like I was lying in a coffin.” Standing by her bed, James Lafferty casually muttered, “Hey, uh, have a nice summer.” She recalled feeling uncomfortable with strangers staring at her hair.

Despite her long stay, Burton claimed that neither the cast nor the show’s crew expected her to return. It didn’t feel like the end at first, so everyone else was sent home so she and Murray could film their farewell sequence without interruption.

Burton shed tears as she recalled her out-of-body experience, comparing it to her own character’s funeral, even though she wouldn’t see many of them again for a long time.
