Senator Chris Coon, a longtime ally of Joe Biden, said the current president is the only one who can beat Donald Trump in November, despite calls for Trump to withdraw following his appearance at the car crash debate.

Despite these demands, even Trump believes it is too late for the Democrats to choose another candidate.

The former president also agreed at his post-debate rally on Friday that no other candidate in the debate is polling better than Biden.

“(Biden) is our candidate for November. And he has the best chance to beat him (Trump),” Senator Coons (D-Del.) said in a Sunday interview with Jonathan Karl, host of ABC News This Week.

In the three days since the CNN debate between Trump and Biden in Atlanta, numerous Democrats and their major donors have called for the 81-year-old president to resign.

Senator Chris Coons says President Joe Biden is still the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump in November

“You don’t think Joe Biden is the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump, do you?” asked Karl Coons.

But the senator replied: “I think he is the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump.”

In Chesapeake, Virginia, just 17 hours after the debate, Trump told a roaring crowd that he did not believe the Democratic Party would abandon Biden because it had no better option to succeed him.

Neither Trump nor Biden are their party’s official nominees. The nomination will be officially announced at the Republican National Convention next month in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois in August.

And although both are considered candidates of their respective parties, Biden’s chances of success as a candidate are in question after he repeatedly stumbled over his words and lost his thread during Thursday night’s debate.

Trump is not convinced that Democrats will oust him, saying other options such as Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom and former first lady Michelle Obama are doing poorly in the polls.

“A lot of people are saying that Joe Biden is dropping out of the race after his performance last night,” Trump said during a rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, Friday afternoon.

He continued, “But the fact is, I don’t really believe that because he (Biden) is doing better in the polls than any of the Democrats they’re talking about.”

At his rally in Chesapeake, Virginia, the day after the debate, Trump said: “A lot of people are saying after yesterday’s performance that Joe Biden is dropping out of the race. But the fact is, I don’t really believe that, because he (Biden) is doing better in the polls than any of the Democrats they’re talking about.”
Biden’s performance in Thursday’s debate against Trump in Atlanta was a complete failure, leading to calls for him to withdraw from his re-election campaign.

Although Harris is the second candidate for the presidency, some reports suggest that she will not be considered as Biden’s successor if he drops out of the 2024 presidential race.

“These polls are bringing up names like Governor Newsom. He can’t govern California – he’s one of the worst governors. He’s a bad governor, he can’t govern California,” the former president told a crowd of thousands of supporters who came to witness his victory on Friday.

“Then Kamala is obviously someone who will be there – it might have been Joe Biden’s best decision to make her vice president,” he joked sarcastically. “Maybe it was his best decision, because nobody wants that. I do. I would be very happy with that.”

“But they don’t poll as well as this guy. I don’t want to speak against myself, but they poll well on everyone. You polled Michelle Obama. She polls very poorly,” he insisted.

But Trump finally admitted: “I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
