Acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist Jade Bird presents highlights from her latest album Different types of lightrecorded in Nashville with cutting-edge producer Dave Cobb. The Welsh native, who recently moved to Austin, cut her teeth in London pubs and open mic nights as a teenager, and has been garnering recognition in the U.S. since 2018, winning first place at SXSW and being nominated for Emerging Artist of the Year at the Americana Awards. The experienced, charismatic 23-year-old lights up the ACL stage with a magnetic debut, opening the set with the melodic “Headstart” and shining with irresistible new songs including “Now is the Time” and “Candidate,” alongside gems from her early career, including her 2018 breakthrough hit “Lottery,” a goodbye kiss to an ex over a catchy rock tune, and the fiery “I Get No Joy,” which she cheekily dedicates to 2020. Bird pays tribute to an American musical hero, Dolly Parton, with a luminous rendition of her classic “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?” accompanied by Nashville singer Savannah Conley and guitarist Luke Prosser in a beautiful three-part harmony.

21-year-old Sloan Struble, who records under the name Dayglow, brings all the feels to an exuberant ACL debut that will put a big smile on audiences’ faces. The genius pop prodigy shines in a bouncy set full of sunny, smart indie pop. His second album of 2021, House of Harmonyreceives praise from critics, with the Austin American statesman He calls it “one of the best albums of the year, a snappy and ahead-of-its-time collection of songs that will make you cry on the dance floor.” “Let’s freakin’ rock,” enthuses Struble as he happily bounces around the stage on the opener “Something” and then delivers a dose of pure ’70s grooves with the infectious “Medicine.” Struble started making music in his teenage room and delights with tunes from his 2018 debut album Fuzzy Brainincluding the viral single “Can I Call You Tonight?” that launched his meteoric career. A highlight of the set is the smooth rock banger “Crying on the Dancefloor,” complete with sweet soprano saxophone and a heart-wrenching melody. Dayglow’s love of new wave and ’80s pop anthems is evident on the dreamy synthpop breakthrough single “Close to You,” and he showcases the modern/nostalgic dichotomy that is a trademark of his music with a feel-good cover of the Tear For Fears classic “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” which melds with his own “Run the World!!!” for a memorable closer.

“Jade Bird and Dayglow are two of the brightest stars in the pop world right now, and we’re proud to call Austin home for both of them,” says ACL producer Terry Lickona. “They bring a breath of fresh air to classic songwriting, with a bit of bite and plenty of catchy hooks.”
