HIGHLIGHTS: Follow the action from Austria as George Russell takes victory after a dramatic collision between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris

George Russell took a surprise victory at the Austrian Grand Prix after a dramatic collision between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris in the closing stages left both drivers behind.

Russell had been following Verstappen and Norris for most of Sunday’s race at the Red Bull Ring, but a slow pit stop by Red Bull allowed the McLaren driver to close the gap and challenge for the lead.

Norris had already made several overtaking attempts when he passed Verstappen on the inside at Turn 3 on the 64th of 71 laps, but there was contact between the two and both suffered a tire puncture.

While Verstappen saved fifth place after a pit stop, Norris crawled back to his garage and was forced to retire due to the damage sustained, paving the way for Russell to win over Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz.

At the beginning of the race, Piastri collided with Charles Leclerc in Turn 1 and then with Sergio Perez in Turn 4, forcing the Ferrari driver to come into the pits for repairs.

There were also five-second penalties for Perez and Lewis Hamilton for speeding in the pit lane and pit entry violations respectively, while Fernando Alonso received a ten-second penalty for damaging Zhou Guanyu’s car.
