This week, at the extreme music festival Hellfest in France, a world record attempt took place to build the largest “Wall of Death” of all time.
Thousands of fans lined up and rushed each other as deathcore band Slaughter To Prevail performed on the main stage at the four-day event in Clisson.
You can see a video of the attempt below. The video, posted on Instagram, is captioned “biggest wall of death,” suggesting that the festival considers the world record to have been set.
The clip shows thousands of metalheads waiting for the order to attack before chaos breaks out and the audience becomes a whirling mass of bodies.
Slaughter To Prevail frontman Alex Terrible told the Hellfest crowd after the “Wall of Death”: “Next time the Wall of Death will be bigger. France, you are not cowards. I like that!”
Hellfest takes place from June 27th to 30th and the headliners are Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head and Foo Fighters.
It is not the first time that Hellfest has attempted to break the world record. In 2014, there was a spectacular attempt during the performance of the French band Dagoba. There was also a less successful attempt in 2019.
Although it cannot be confirmed that Hellfest’s attempt is the world’s largest wall of death, it is certainly better than last year’s weak attempt in Kentucky (USA).
Other bands headlining the various stages at Hellfest 2024 include The Offspring, Saxon, The Prodigy, Dropkick Murphys, Enter Shikari, Body Count, Suicidal Tendencies, Mr Bungle, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Fu Manchu, Dismember and Pain of Salvation.
