“West Ham United would like to thank Ben and Divin for their hard work and dedication throughout their careers with the Claret and Blue and wish them all the best for the future.”

However, since no agreement was reached, the two are now free agents.

Both players are graduates of West Ham’s academy and left the club after working their way up the rankings and making the leap into the first team.

Mubama made his debut in 2022 and has since made 18 appearances for the first team.

Johnson’s connection with the club dates back to his professional debut in 2019.

Johnson may already have a new club in mind: Ipswich Town is currently negotiating the signing of the defender.

Johnson and Mubama join nine other players released by West Ham this summer.

Of the nine other stars, Angelo Ogbonna stood out the most, while goalkeeper Joseph Anang also left.

The other seven names leaving the team are all young players from the academy.

These are Jacob Knightbridge, Keenan Appiah-Forson, Dan Chesters, Liam Jones, Jerry Umolu, Seb Boothe and Blaise Uwandji.

Ben Johnson’s full statement

Hello everyone,

Thank you to everyone associated with West Ham United for your support over the last 17 years and for developing him into a first team player.

I was fortunate enough to come through the football academy and play for the first team in the Premier League, domestic cups and European competitions.

I just want to be known and remembered for my time at West Ham because I played with a smile on my face and really enjoyed my football. That’s really important to me.

My best memory would have to be winning the UEFA Europa Conference League. It’s not often you get to be involved in winning a European cup, but it was incredible to be there and be a part of it and to achieve that with West Ham.

My dreams were exceeded by what happened two seasons ago and I’m just so, so happy to have made it as a West Ham player. I’ll never forget that night.

I wish West Ham every success for the coming season under the new head coach and of course I will miss all my teammates and staff as well as the fans.

West Ham will always be a part of my life that I will remember with a lot of affection and love. I have developed into a young man and a better player thanks to West Ham, so finally a big thank you to the club!

See you soon.
