The Las Vegas Raiders ruined Christmas for Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift

The Las Vegas Raiders’ 20-14 victory over the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs was a triumph for then-interim coach Antonio Pierce and the Silver and Black. It was a harbinger of the style of play around which Pierce would build a team in the months that followed with the hiring of general manager Tom Telesco.

This day was also a tough one for the most famous couple in the world: Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his megastar girlfriend Taylor Swift. Kelce spoke about the defeat in a recent episode of the podcast “Bussin’ with the Boys.” He said the couple’s first Christmas was “ruined.”

“We got beat up by the damn Raiders on Christmas. You damned Christmas, motherfuckers,” Kelce told podcast hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton. “(Antonio Pierce) had these guys that were ready to fight out there on the field. 100 percent, man. And I love that shit. I thought, man, if we play with that grit or that toughness, that ‘don’t mess with us’ mentality, we’re unstoppable. And that’s how it ended up. But that game against the Raiders was definitely a turning point.”

The loss was a wake-up call for the Chiefs, as they finished the regular season with two wins. The Chiefs marched all the way back to the Super Bowl, defeating the seemingly unstoppable Baltimore Ravens along the way. The Chiefs will now aim for a third straight win in 2024.

The good news for Kelce and the Chiefs is that Christmas Day is behind them and they won’t have to face the Raiders on Christmas Day 2024. Instead, they’ll play the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kelce and Swift will have a 50-50 chance of another ruined Christmas.

More bad news for the Chiefs comes from the Silver and Black: The team that was “ready to fight” will continue to do so under Pierce. And the team is better, too. The signing of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins and the additions of linebacker Tommy Eichenberg and cornerback Decamerion Richardson will only further strengthen a defense that has become one of the most physical and best in the NFL.
