Man arrested for hacking person in North Charleston | News

NORTH CHARLESTON – Police have charged a man with murder after he allegedly hacked a person to death with a machete at a construction site near Palmetto Commerce Parkway on June 19.

The suspect, 33-year-old Tyrone Clayton Campbell of Summerville, and the victim, whose identity has not been made public, were temporary local workers who got into an argument, according to a statement from North Charleston police spokesman Harve Jacobs.

Campbell allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and struck him with the machete, a witness told officers. Campbell then allegedly stood over the victim and swung the machete around.

He then left the building and encountered police on the sidewalk in front of 3471 Trade Center Court shortly before 3 p.m., Jacobs said. Campbell allegedly pulled the machete from his pocket and refused to drop it until police shocked him with a Taser, Jacobs said. He was then arrested without further incident.

Campbell is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. According to records, this is the first time he has been booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
