City on a hill will not return to Showtime for a fourth season, PEOPLE has confirmed. The crime drama’s third-season finale, which aired last month, will now serve as the series finale.

In a statement, Showtime thanked the cast and crew, including Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge, for their work over the past three seasons.

“City on a hill ended its successful run on Showtime with the third season finale,” the network said. “We have had nothing but the best experience working with Kevin Bacon, Aldis Hodge and the entire cast and crew, led by showrunner Tom Fontana and other executive producers including Jennifer Todd and Jorge Zamacona. We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone.”

City on a hill tells the story of the unusual duo of FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Bacon) and Assistant District Attorney DeCourcy Ward (Hodge), who team up to fight corruption in Boston.

The news comes after Hodge was cast in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series Cross, accordingly diversity.

In 2021, Hodge spoke openly about the dynamic between his character and Bacon’s.

“From the day they met, between Jackie and Decourcy, there has been a sense of familiarity but also of direct opposition,” Hodge said. “For Decourcy, Jackie is his epitome of all the corruption in Boston.”

He continued: “In the first season, he was like, ‘OK (Jackie), you’re going to show me how the rabbit runs. And then, oh no, you’re the rabbit… He knows what a tornado Jackie can be.'”
