Chris Jericho’s surprise attack on Mistico at the CMLL event

Chris Jericho’s surprise attack on Mistico at the CMLL event

In an electrifying return to Arena Mexico, AEW Superstar Chris Jericho opened a classic rivalry by attacking CMLL fan-favorite luchador Mistico. The attack came at the closing bell of Mistico’s match at CMLL’s Viernes Espectacular show.

Jericho used his special moves, the Codebreaker and the Judas Effect to take him down. After the bell rang, Jericho cut a bilingual commercial that was well received by those in attendance and viewers worldwide. Jericho’s words echoed through the arena: “I’m thrilled to be here.”

Mexico has been a big part of my life. I have wrestled in Mexico City, lived here and experienced this vibrant country. I have accomplished many great things in my career. Some even call me the best of all time. But Mistico, the day you want me, I am ready to face you anytime, anywhere.

You think you own Arena Mexico, but I remember that 30 years ago it was mine, my home, and now I’ve come to take back what’s mine.” The dramatic confrontation now sets up a huge encounter between wrestling legends on the July 5 CMLL card: Jericho said he will “take back his house.”

Showdowns at forbidden doors

Although there is a lot of anticipation in the wrestling world, according to a promo from the AEW star, both Jericho and Mistico will compete in various trios matches this Sunday when AEW teams up with NJPW for the Forbidden Door event in Long Island.

Mistico will team up with The Lucha Brothers – Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix – to face Yota Tsuji, Titan and Hiromu Takahashi as part of the Zero Hour pre-show. Chris Jericho will team up with Big Bill and a mystery partner to face Hiroshi Tanahashi and the duo of The Acclaimed Max Caster and Anthony Bowens.

This year’s event will be very different for Jericho, however, as he will not be teaming with his usual Minoru Suzuki, with whom he has formed a permanent tag team at previous Forbidden Door events.

The two will face each other for the FTW Championship at some point in the future, adding even more drama to Chris Jericho’s developing storyline. The surprise appearance in Mexico City itself, where Jericho is challenged to a match, not only revives a historic rivalry, but also prepares fans for a series of electrifying matches that are sure to have the wrestling world on edge.
