Balcony sways during crowded Gunna show, Michigan video shows. ‘Scared to see this’
A video of a Gunna concert in Michigan that was shared online has caused concern among many, but officials say there is no cause for concern.
In the video shared on the rapper’s Instagram account, the balcony of Detroit’s Fox Theater appeared to bounce up and down as fans danced during the show on Monday, May 6.
Many people questioned the safety of the venue.
“They need to check the stability of this balcony,” said one commentator. “So many people could be injured or even die.”
“It’s like a lawsuit,” said another commenter.
“I am so disturbed when I see this,” wrote a third.
Others compared the video to the scene at the 2021 Astroworld Festival, when ten people were crushed to death during a Travis Scott performance.
At least one of the top comments claimed the balcony was supposed to sway. According to Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, which operates the Fox Theater, that’s true.
The company said the movements seen during Gunna’s performance were “common and expected … to encourage audience members to actively dance,” according to a statement obtained by the Detroit Free Press and WDIV.
“This capability is an integral part of the structural engineering design of the balcony,” Ilitch Sports + Entertainment said in the statement. “Regular inspections, most recently conducted in April, are performed to ensure the integrity and safety of the structure.”
The Fox Theatre opened in 1928 and has a capacity of over 5,000 spectators.
According to police, GloRilla refused to take a breathalyzer test when he was arrested while under the influence of alcohol. Is that legal in Georgia?
Nelly fans wait for hours, but he never comes to the Michigan show. “A huge debacle”
