3 thoughts on Julius Holly’s commitment to Michigan Football

Michigan football was at its best in June. It’s usually a good month for the Wolverines, and they were in the class of 2025 again this year.

On Saturday, Julius Holly committed to Michigan football. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound EDGE from Alpharetta, Georgia, is ranked No. 301 in the Class of 2025 according to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. He is the No. 22 EDGE and the Wolverines’ 10th blue-chip signee for the Class of 2025.

Holly chose Michigan football over Texas A&M, Georgia and Ole Miss. This is the eighth commitment in June and 13th overall for the No. 15 class of 2025, according to 247 Sports’ team rankings.

Here are three thoughts.

Holly is a little different than many of the players Michigan football has recruited at EDGE. The Wolverines love those 6’5 or 6’6 pass rushers. They’re Jaylen Williams and Nate Marshall, who can play multiple positions along the defensive line.

Holly is a little different, he’s more of a true EDGE. He may not have the typical size, but he can put pressure on the passer. Holly had 57 tackles, eight sacks, and three pass breakups last season. Holly has natural talent off the EDGE and he was a productive player at a high level, so there’s a lot to like.

You have to give credit to Lou Esposito. He has done an incredible job since taking over as Michigan football’s D-line coach in the spring. Esposito has since landed three blue-chip signings in Jaylen Williams, Nate Marshall and now Holly.

Esposito has also managed, at least so far, to keep Bobby Kanka and Nate Marshall from opting out, and with this latest signing, he has three blue-chip signings in a few months on the job.

This is very promising for the future.

There have been a few misses recently, like Jordon Davison, and Maxwell Roy looks set to land at Ohio State, but there are other promising prospects to consider in the coming days.

Four-star offensive lineman Hardy Watts is expected to make his announcement on Monday. Andrew Olesh has also spoken of a Monday commitment. Nothing is certain in recruiting, but if the commitment date doesn’t change — Olesh has expressed uncertainty — then Michigan should get two more commitments from blue-chip recruits on Monday.

That would be a total of 15 commitments and 12 blue chips. Andrew Marsh and Taz Williams are also considered favorites for Michigan and the Wolverines are putting together a class that could be a top-10 player.

It’s time.
