SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – New Orleans Saints wide receiver and former Mission Hills player Chris Olave is returning home to host his third annual youth camp at his alma mater.

When asked how important it is to keep the tradition alive, Olave says, “Giving back to the community has always been one of my main reasons. I was always one of those little kids who looked up to these people. For me, this is a big deal.”

The 2017 Silver Pigskin finalist is entering his third NFL season with the Saints, with Olave breaking the 1,000-yard mark in both seasons. The WR1 is looking to continue to develop this fall: “I’m excited, there’s a lot to look forward to. The most important thing is to win and get into the playoffs, but I’m just working on doing my best for my teammates and encouraging them.”

Chris Hauser, head coach of the Mission Hills football team, looks back on the moment when his former player Olave came full circle: “He is still the Chris Olave who was here on this campus back in the 2016/17 season. He is just an incredible man and comes from a wonderful family. What a special occasion.”

When asked what qualities Coach Hauser saw in Olave’s time as a high school player, Hauser responded, “His willingness to just be a great teammate. I think we all recognized that he was super talented, but that kept him so under the radar. He acted like he was one of the guys, which he was and he wanted to be. He built friendships and relationships with the entire team.”

The WR1 and the New Orleans Saints begin their regular season on September 8th against the Carolina Panthers.
