Nobody believes he met Lee Mack’s wife before he became famous

Lee Mack has previously revealed that people often don’t believe he met his wife before he became famous.

The 55-year-old presenter of ITV’s The 1% Club is married to Tara but says people often assume she is attracted to his fame and wealth rather than his personality. In a podcast, Lee told an amusing anecdote about Roisin Conaty’s sister asking how he managed to win over Tara.

She asked if he had done something heroic like saving her life, as she couldn’t understand why Tara had been with him before his rise to fame. Lee clarified that he and Tara had known each other since their college days, long before he became a household name in the comedy scene.

Lee said in a podcast: “We spoke to Roisin Conaty the other day. Her sister met Tara and said, ‘I assume you two were together after you became comedians and made a bit of money.'”

“And I said, ‘No, no, we met before I became a comedian, when we were at university.’ And she looked horrified because she knew why this woman was with me.

“And you know what she said? ‘Did you save her life or something?’ I thought that was an incredibly brave statement to make after five minutes of getting to know someone.”
