Reba McEntire scores victory with soulful powerhouse Asher HaVon

Reba McEntire and John Legend made it to the finish line of “The Voice,” but the Queen of Country Music found herself in the winner’s circle.

Team Reba singer Asher HaVon was named the winner of Season 25 during the two-hour finale of the NBC singing competition on Tuesday night. Team Legend’s Bryan Olesen was declared runner-up to HaVon’s teammate Josh Sanders.

After his “Voice” triumph, McEntire joined an emotional HaVon on stage, where the two embraced under a rain of red and white confetti.

“Thank you for giving me such a safe place to be my true self,” HaVon told McEntire shortly before his victory. “Thank you for allowing me to believe in myself, and I promise you that I will never let you down.”

Earlier in the evening, HaVon and McEntire took the stage together for a rousing duet of “On My Own” by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald.

“I’ve seen you grow. I’ve seen you change, not in any way in terms of your personality or your talent, but in terms of your happiness,” McEntire told HaVon. “I know you’ve had a great time here on ‘The Voice’ and everyone has had a wonderful time with you, especially me.”

On Monday, HaVon made his bid for finale glory with mesmerizing performances of Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”

The 31-year-old really hit the ground running and wowed audiences with his gospel-influenced rendition of the summer disco classic. Legend said HaVon had found his musical niche.

“I truly believe you’re the best singer in this competition,” Legend said. “Maybe you should look into that path. … Some of the best disco and house artists are gospel trained and have that voice. It fits you like a glove.”
