Opportunity for a Boys and Girls Club for Eureka

Opportunity for a Boys and Girls Club for Eureka

The Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows could open a new facility in Eureka. Mike Wurm, president and CEO of the club, provided insight into the early planning stages. He said, “The most important thing now is to follow the federal procurement process and select a general contractor. Once we do that, we can tap into state funds for the project. The funds are ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds from the State of Nevada, which are designated by the governor and approved by the Finance Committee.”

ARPA was passed by Congress and signed into law on March 11, 2021. This law created the Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Fund and the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund. Both funds were established to help states rebuild after COVID-19.

Wurm further explained that while the Eureka Boys and Girls Club has been in the planning stages for several years, they do not yet have a set timeline, but hope to begin the process as soon as possible.

He noted, “The building is still in the planning stages but will be based on the needs of the community and the final amount raised. The goal is to meet the needs of preschool and school-age children. It will be staffed by a combination of paid staff and volunteers, depending on what needs are being met and how the building is ultimately planned.”

Mr. Wurm did not comment on a possible location for the Boys and Girls Club.
