Justin Timberlake’s lawyer has spoken out after the 43-year-old singer was arrested for drunk driving on Long Island, New York.

On Wednesday, June 19, attorney Edward Burke Jr. released a statement obtained by PEOPLE, saying, “Mr. Burke looks forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations. He will have much to say in due course. He is currently awaiting the full evidentiary results from the prosecution.”

Timberlake was arrested early in the morning on June 18. The “Mirrors” singer was stopped after leaving the American Hotel in Sag Harbor, where he was hanging out with friends,” a source told PEOPLE at the time.

“No one was injured,” the source said.

Timberlake was charged with drunken driving and two violations – one for failure to stop at a stop sign and one for failure to maintain lane.

Later in the day, police issued a statement: “On June 18, 2024 at 12:37 a.m., Justin R. Timberlake, age 43, of Tennessee was observed driving a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street, failing to stop at a properly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane.”

The statement continued: “A police officer with the Sag Harbor Village Police Department initiated a traffic stop and upon investigation, it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle while intoxicated.”

According to his arrest report, obtained by PEOPLE, the hitmaker told authorities, “I drank a martini and followed my friends home.”

After conducting a traffic stop, a police officer found that Timberlake’s “eyes were bloodshot and glassy, ​​his breath gave off the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, he was unable to divide his attention, spoke slowly, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on all standardized sobriety tests,” the police report states.

Timberlake has not yet made a public statement about his arrest. His “Forget Tomorrow” world tour is scheduled to include two stops in Chicago on June 21 and 22 and two in New York on June 25 and 26.

According to his website, Burke opened his own firm, Edward Burke, Jr. & Associates, in 2005 after opening a private law practice in 1996. Based in Sag Harbor, New York, the law firm specializes in “criminal defense, negligence, real estate and construction law.”

Timberlake is expected back in court for a hearing on July 26.
