In March 2024, Meta approved and accepted money for at least one paid ad claiming that country music star Reba McEntire “stormed” off the set of NBC’s “The Voice” after producers kicked her off the show.

The ad’s headline read: “Reba McEntire makes a stormy exit from ‘The Voice.'” Another version of the ad also read: “I got kicked out by the producers because of my choice? I’m going to miss you all!”

However, this ad was both false and a scam. Despite this, the ad continued to appear on Meta for many weeks, and some users were still receiving the ad in their feeds on Facebook and Instagram in early June. Snopes confirmed that the ad was still active on June 6.

Users who clicked on the ad were taken to a fake Fox News article hosted on the fraudulent website newkirk.buzz. The article falsely claimed that McEntire had developed a product called Bloom CBD Gummies or Nature’s Leaf CBD Gummies to “reverse dementia.” The headline of the fake article read, “Reba McEntire Reverses Dementia Solution, Sparks Tremendous Lawsuit Pressure at Fox, She Finally Strikes Back on Air.”

The UK Alzheimer’s Society website once stated: “There are no research studies to prove that cannabis or products such as cannabis oil (CBD oil) can stop, slow down, reverse or prevent the diseases that cause dementia.”

Snopes has documented in previous articles that Meta and Facebook have approved and accepted money for other fraudulent ads using McEntire’s face and name for years, seemingly with little or no resistance from the tech giant and its billion-dollar quarterly revenue.

On the same day that Snopes reviewed this scam in June 2024, we discovered that Meta was hosting other active, false paid ads that promoted similar CBD gummy bear scams. These ads and scams falsely claimed that Dana Perino and Laura Ingraham were leaving Fox News, James Dobson was “leaving the church,” Garth Brooks was “leaving office,” and Dolly Parton confirmed “heartbreaking news.” None of these famous people have ever endorsed CBD gummies. Bloom CBD Gummies and Nature’s Leaf CBD Gummies also misleadingly appeared in all of these articles.
