Kermit the Frog gets a new voice after 27 years

Kermit the Frog gets a new actor and voice actor for the first time since 1990.

According to ABC News, Steve Whitmire, the longtime actor who plays the famous green puppet, will be leaving the Muppets after nearly 30 years. Matt Vogel, who voiced and directed Kermit’s doppelgänger Constantine in the 2014 film “Muppets Most Wanted,” will take over the role.

Vogel is only the third actor to portray Kermit since the character was first introduced in 1955. The character was originally created by Muppets creator Jim Henson, and Whitmire took over the role after Henson’s death in 1990. Vogel’s first appearance in the role of Kermit will be in next week’s “Muppets Thought of the Week” video.
