LGBTQ activists advocate for interventions on transgender children

LGBTQ activists who support gender reassignment surgery and the administration of hormones to minors have reacted loudly to the recent announcement by the Supreme Court that it will consider whether such medical practices on children could be banned.

The Supreme Court will hear a lawsuit challenging a Tennessee state law that prohibits transgender surgery on minors. The law, passed last year, imposes civil penalties on doctors who violate the law, as previously reported The Dallas Express.

Almost half of all US states have now passed similar laws.

“It’s simple: Everyone has the right to access the health care they need, and transgender and nonbinary young people are no exception,” Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, told CNN. “No politician should be allowed to interfere in decisions that are better made between families and doctors, especially when that care is necessary and the best course of action.”

LGBTQ activists in Texas who support minors undergoing transgender surgery also commented on the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the Tennessee case.

“If the ban were to be repealed, it would reopen opportunities for transgender youth here in Texas that were closed off by the passage of our healthcare ban in the last legislative session,” said Brad Pritchett of Equality Texas, according to NBC 5 DFW.

“If these bans are passed, parents will have to make a decision. And that decision is: Do they deprive their child of the health care that they themselves have observed, that protects their child, that they themselves have observed, that allows them to live their own life,” Pritchett continued. “Or are they going to try to pack up and go somewhere that is safer for their family? And unfortunately, that is exactly what parents in Texas are having to do.”

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti hopes the Supreme Court will side with Tennessee and protect minors from such proceedings.

“We fought hard to defend Tennessee state law protecting children from irreversible gender transitions and secured a thoughtful and well-reasoned ruling from the Sixth Circuit,” Skrmetti told Fox News. “I look forward to finishing the fight in the United States Supreme Court. This case will provide much-needed clarity on whether the Constitution contains special protections for gender identity.”

Robert Tyler, president and general counsel of Advocates for Faith and Freedom, also expressed hope that the Supreme Court would side with Tennessee.

“It’s almost common knowledge that parents genuinely love their children far more than the government does. Tennessee simply recognizes that fact while the Biden administration, California and some other culturally motivated states fake their love for children while lining their pockets with money from left-wing organizations that aim to oversexualize children,” Tyler said, according to Fox News.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case this fall.
