Chaos will be released on Netflix later this summer, and the streaming service has released first photos for the dark fantasy comedy series, which takes a modern look at Greek mythology. The series, written by Charlie Covell, was ordered in 2018 and will be released on 29th August with 10 episodes.

The series stars Jeff Goldblum, Janet McTeer, David Thewlis, Rakie Ayola, Cliff Curtis, Stephen Dillane, Aurora Perrineau, Nabhaan Rizwan, Killian Scott, Misia Butler, Stanley Townsend and Leila Farzad. It is a contemporary take on the gods and focuses on Zeus (Goldblum) as he believes he is losing his power.

Netflix revealed further information about the series in a press release.

“KAOS will premiere on Netflix on August 29, starring Jeff Goldblum as King of the Gods Zeus.

The queen at his side is Janet Mcteer as Hera, with Nabhaan Rizwaan as her headstrong son Dionysus. On Earth, Aurora Perrineau (Riddy) and Killian Scott (Orpheus) take on the roles of the disillusioned wife and the unfocused rock star husband, respectively.

KAOS, from The End of the F*****g World creator Charlie Covell, is an irreverent dramedy inspired by Greek mythology (no classical studies degree required!). A dysfunctional family of gods – cruel fathers, wayward sons, discontented wives and feuding brothers – the series takes a fresh look at power structures and the idea of the 1%.

Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) is the king of the gods: all-powerful yet desperately insecure. A megalomaniac in casual clothes, Zeus is awakened from his paranoia one day when he discovers a new wrinkle on his forehead. He is convinced that this is proof that an ancient prophecy is coming true: that he and the family of gods will lose their power. As he tries to shore up his regime, he makes dangerous enemies everywhere he goes, fails to listen to those who actually want to help him, and takes actions that threaten the survival of humanity itself.

Hera (Janet McTeer) is the queen of the gods and married to Zeus (who also happens to be her brother). When we meet Hera, things are going pretty well, but her husband’s increasing paranoia and obsession with his prophecy make things increasingly difficult for her. As Zeus goes mad, Hera finds herself in real danger. Because she has an explosive secret that could threaten her existence if Zeus were to discover it. Perhaps it would be best for Hera to go her own way…

Dionysus (Nabhaan Rizwan) is Zeus’ favorite son. His mother was mortal, and Hera turned her into a bee (don’t ask). Zeus made Dionysus a full-fledged god – the guardian of lust, madness, and wild frenzy. Up until this point, everything was fine, but lately, Dionysus has been a little… bored. He wants more: more power, and more respect from his family. He’s tired of being treated like a child. A moment of casual cruelty from Zeus drives Dionysus to actions that are meant to annoy his father, but ultimately threaten to destroy the entire world.

Meanwhile, humans continue to live frustrated lives under the rule of the gods. Riddy (Aurora Perrineau) has no idea of her cosmic significance. She feels little significance in her own life. As the wife of the world-famous musician Orpheus, she leads a life of luxury: from the outside, her existence is enviable. But Riddy is deeply unhappy and knows she has to change something. And as fate would have it, a chance encounter one morning in a supermarket offers her just that. Her husband Orpheus (Killian Scott) is a rock star with a big heart and an ego to match. When his life is ripped out from under him, Orpheus has a choice: he can accept the cards he has been dealt or try to defy death itself.”
