Fans call on Ciara to condemn her ‘ungodly’ dance videos after she spoke out against her appearance on Gospel Remix

Pop-R&B singer Ciara made a guest appearance on Christian hip-hop artist Hulvey’s gospel song “Altar (Remix)” this month.

Although it has turned out to be one of CiCi’s “favorite posts” she has ever made, her online fans are not too pleased to see a seemingly secular artist singing to the Lord.

But despite the shady comments, fans and friends, including her fellow singers Monica and Tameka “Tiny” Harris, rushed to her aid and celebrated her for the new song.

One said: “I really like this song she needs to sing it and perform it god you’re amazing it’s me.” Another wrote: “Oh my god!!! @ciara we need more of this from you! So awesome so beautiful! This is a blast.”

“Altar Remix with Hulvey and Ciara is not good! Light can not fellowship with darkness. They are confusing the children in Christ!” wrote one person on X.

The Spiritual Word reported on the backlash and said that the “Goodies” singer “has nothing to do with gospel songs.”

A second post said: “We are hearing about a collaboration between Hulvey and Ciara. First and foremost, Ciara MUST renounce and condemn every ungodly song video and dirty dancing post on social media. We should not ignore that she is a stumbling block and cause of confusion for young people, adults and the body of Christ.”

Some read the criticism and asked who died and made them Peter at the gates of heaven.

“The debate over whether or not someone can praise God is madness to me! As far as I can remember, there were no perfect people in the Bible,” wrote one person, while another asked, “But Michelle can? You can take your pick,” referring to singer and gospel singer Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child.

One fan commented: “Snoop (Dogg) did a whole gospel album and you didn’t bat an eyelid. LEAVE CICI ALONE.”

Another listener added, “Then don’t ask her for her prayers, because you’re all so fickle,” referring to the prayer that led Ciara to her husband, Russell Wilson. She and the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback have been married for seven years and have three biological children, as well as Ciara’s son from a previous relationship.

But it was two other Atlanta legends who celebrated their friend’s song on social media.

Grammy-winning “Scrubs” co-writer Tiny responded to a video post of Ciara singing the hit: “I absolutely love this song!!!”

“People have a problem with everything these days,” wrote Monica, aka “Goonica,” who honed her singing skills in church. “That’s why you have to do what works for you and that’s exactly what she did and that’s exactly why she continues to be so successful! Happy Sunday, have the day you deserve!”

Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, the former R&B singer of Cheetah Girl and 3LW who is now married to gospel superstar Israel Houghton, also spoke out, posting three hallelujah hand emojis and writing again: “This is so (fire emojis).”

Ciara and Russell have been very open and forthright about their faith. When speaking about his relationship with his wife’s eldest son in an interview, Wilson said he believes God told him to be a part of young Future’s life when he first met him at a few months old.

At the same time that God was speaking to Wilson, He also seemed to be speaking to Ciara. In 2019, “Promise” chart-topper Angie Martinez shared how she prayed for Wilson.

“I prayed for a God-fearing man. I prayed for discernment. I prayed for wisdom to really learn from the wisdom that I have gained from the experiences that I am going through,” she said.

She continued, “I prayed for a man who loved children, because if I have a son, of course I have to love him. I also prayed for a man who was worldly. Because I love to explore, I wanted someone who would build my world. I was ready to move up!”

Another way Ciara shows her faith is by continuing to praise God for her seemingly happy marriage and family. The two celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary last July with a romantic trip to Japan. That day, she shared a post emphasizing how important their bond was.

“In the Bible, the number 7 represents a whole and complete world. My heart is complete and filled with gratitude for the love we share. I have everything I want and need in you. Happy 7th anniversary, @DangeRussWilson. Thank you for loving me so much. I love you so much,” she wrote.

Wilson has always stood up for his wife, who came under fire in 2023 for wearing a see-through mesh dress to the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar after-party.

“Keep pushing the baby,” he wrote in her comments section after being harshly mocked online.

But surprisingly, this is not the first time Ciara has appeared on a Christian song.

In addition to “Altar (Remix)”, she also appeared on Tasha Cobbs Leonard’s “In Spite of Me” in 2020 and Maverick City’s “On and One” in 2021, which also featured American drummer Harolddd and rapper Rapsody.
