“I became a parody of myself”

Chris Hemsworth doesn’t seem to think much of the latest “Thor” movie.

In a Vanity Fair profile published Tuesday, the 40-year-old “Furiosa” star said he felt he messed up on “Thor: Love and Thunder,” the fourth standalone film about the Marvel superhero (2022).

“I got carried away by the improvisation and the madness and became a parody of myself,” he told the magazine. “I didn’t stick the landing.”

Chris Hemsworth admitted in an interview with Vanity Fair that he “mislanded the landing” on “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi, received worse reviews than the previous Thor film, Thor: Ragnarok, which reinvented the title character in 2017 and made him significantly more comedic. But with Love and Thunder, many critics and fans felt that Waititi went too far in that regard, resulting in an overly silly tone. Love and Thunder ultimately grossed $760 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, down from the $855 million that Ragnarok made, but up from the first two Thor films.

A fifth Thor film has not yet been confirmed, although Vanity Fair wrote that Hemsworth feels he “owes audiences one more” installment to make up for Love and Thunder. The actor has previously said he wants the Thor franchise to be reinvented once again should he return for another outing.

“I don’t know if I’ll even be invited back, but if I am, I think it would have to be a drastically different version,” he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2022. “Sound, everything, just for my own mental health.”

In November, Waititi told Business Insider that he would “not be involved” in the next “Thor.”

A scene in the credits of “Love and Thunder” suggested that a fifth film will feature “Ted Lasso” star Brett Goldstein as Hercules. Hemsworth is also expected to return as Thor in two upcoming “Avengers” films, although no official casting has been announced for either film. Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner are the only members of the original “Avengers” team who did not leave the franchise in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”

Chris Hemsworth says reaction to Alzheimer’s Revelation “made me angry”

Other topics covered in the profile include Hemsworth’s revelation on the documentary series Limitless that he has a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease. The news made headlines in 2022, but Hemsworth told Vanity Fair he felt it was taken out of context and mixed in with his plans for time off, making it sound like he was leaving Hollywood due to the health news.

“It really made me angry because I felt like I had revealed something personal and given this away,” Hemsworth told Vanity Fair. “No matter how many times I said, ‘This is not a death sentence,’ the story always became that I have dementia, I’m rethinking my life, I’m retiring, and so on.”

The actor had previously clarified to Entertainment Tonight that he was taking time off because “I’ve been working for 10 years and I have three children that I want to spend more time with.”

Chris Hemsworth reveals he named his son after Brad Pitt’s Legends of the Fall character

Speaking of Hemsworth’s children, the actor also revealed to Vanity Fair that he named his son Tristan after Brad Pitt’s role in the 1994 film Legends of the Fall. He mentioned that he watched the film over and over again as a child.

“There has never been a more beautiful man on screen,” Hemsworth said of Pitt in the film. And after watching the film with his pregnant wife, he said to her, “Isn’t that the coolest character in the world? I think one of our children should be called Tristan.”

Hemsworth will next be seen as a villain in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Sagaa prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road”. The film will be released in cinemas on May 24th.
