Stepfather accidentally films the priceless moment when stepson says “I love you” for the first time

It’s often hard for children to warm up to their stepparents and fully accept them. It may take a while, but when they do, they sometimes develop a bond so strong that they might as well be blood relatives. One stepfather got to witness the same thing in a heartwarming moment when his little stepson confessed his love to him for the very first time. A duo who goes by the name @anxietycouple on TikTok shared footage of their toddler and stepfather. Although the precious moment was caught purely by accident on the home camera, it’s a core memory that the duo surely holds onto to this day.

The stepfather was busy in the kitchen doing some chores when the little boy casually walked into the kitchen and said, “Bye, Scott,” almost out of habit. The stepfather answered him, still engrossed in his work. He did not notice the boy reach behind him, give him a hug from the side and spontaneously say, “Love you.” Immediately after the hug, the child walked away as if nothing had happened. The father’s heart, however, swelled with a joyful echo. “What?!” he cried as he stopped his work and turned around to see that his stepson was already gone. He watched the boy leave hastily and stared in disbelief.

Soon the mother came to him and he eagerly shared the news with her. He excitedly punched the air, walked to his wife like a lively child and said, “Do you know what he said to me today?” The stepfather was too happy to sit still and kept moving excitedly as he spoke. The mother, realizing it was something wonderful he had to say, giggled and asked, “What?” “He said, ‘Love you,'” the stepfather announced triumphantly. “What?” the mother asked with a big smile. The stepfather had anticipated her confusion and described the entire scenario to the mother, detail by detail.

“He came, hugged me, said ‘love you’ and left,” he exclaimed. For the stepfather, it was like winning a long-deserved award. He proudly gave his wife a high-five, feeling touched and super satisfied at the same time. “This is so touching! Best stepdad ever,” the caption read. People were overjoyed by the stepfather’s reaction. Many were happy for him, as the look on the boy’s face was a form of acceptance from his stepfather. Others congratulated the father and were overwhelmed by his sheer joy. @olgebsilva exclaimed, “The fact that he was so happy when he was told ‘love you’ that he told his wife makes me so happy!”
