Martin Mull, actor from “Clue” and “Arrested Development”, dies at the age of 80

Mr. Mull, who was known for both his musical comedies and his paintings, first gained popularity as an actor in the 1970s with roles in the television series “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” and its spinoff “Fernwood 2 Night.” He was known for his role as Principal Willard Kraft in the ’90s sitcom “Sabrina,” as disguise-obsessed detective Gene Parmesan in “Arrested Development” and for a long-running role on “Roseanne,” originally as the title character’s boss.

“It breaks my heart to announce that my father passed away at home on June 27th after a brave battle with a long illness,” Mull’s daughter said in an Instagram post on Friday evening.

“He was known for excelling in every creative discipline imaginable, including his Red Roof Inn commercials. He thought that joke was funny. He was always funny,” she wrote.

According to his biography on IMDb, Mr. Mull was known for his “dry, humorless manner and bland, highly conservative demeanor, which concealed a clever, witty and ultra-hip philosophy.”

Before his film career, he was also a practice kicker for the Cleveland Browns, according to the film’s website.

Mr Mull leaves behind his wife Wendy and his daughter Maggie.

“My father will be sadly missed by his wife and daughter, his friends and colleagues, fellow artists, comedians and musicians and – the mark of a truly extraordinary person – many, many dogs. I loved him beyond belief,” Maggie Mull said in her Instagram post.
