Taylor Swift creates Airbnb boom in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Singer-Songwriter “Superstar“Taylor Swift makes sure there is no “Cruel Summer“ for all the cities in which she performs her record-breaking Eras Tour.

Airbnb, a short-term rental company, said it would not be a cruel crash if Swift came to Indy and sparked another economic boom.

Searches increased 7,000% between November 1 and 3, the weekend Taylor Swift will be in Indianapolis.

“This increase seems huge,” said Haven Thorn, Airbnb’s communications director. “It’s really a comparison of demand last year for the same weekend in 2023, November 1-3, with the demand we’re seeing this year.”

The Lucas Oil Stadium was a “Blank Space” on tour original plan and missed the first leg of the North American tour and the associated financial boom.

“During those weekends together in all the cities she visited on tour, the hosts earned over $77 million just by hosting guests individually on those weekends,” Thorn said.

Not only Airbnb hosts will miss the weekend “Enchanted,“Other companies in Indianapolis can compete with a “Gold Rush“ when the Swifties come to town.

“Taylor Swift has a huge economic impact, not only for the hosts who are hosting guests, but also for the small businesses that the guests are visiting while they’re in town,” Thorn said. “They go to the coffee shops. They go to the cafes. So it’s good business for everyone involved when Taylor Swift is there.”

Soon Swift will say “Bye, London” and leaving Europe, but European tour stops are also seeing an increase in the number of Americans searching for Airbnbs – an increase of almost 70%.

Last year alone, more than a quarter of a million guests stayed in an Airbnb during Swift’s tour dates, and many said “Today was a fairytale.
