The Apple Developer Academy at Michigan State University in Detroit celebrated its third graduating class on Thursday.

This year’s graduating class included nearly 200 students in total. Since 2021, the academy has equipped nearly 1,000 Detroiters with the skills to help them succeed in the city’s growing technology sector. The program includes courses that teach students how to build iOS apps that support businesses and communities that use Apple devices like iPhones and iPads.

The next stage of the program offers 50 exceptional students the opportunity to participate in training, mentoring and collaboration opportunities with local organizations.

“We believe everyone deserves a chance to learn the skills needed for the workforce of today and tomorrow, and we know a growing app economy is a place where diverse developers and entrepreneurs like you have a unique opportunity to leave their mark on the world,” Korri Jackson, senior education program manager at Apple’s Community Education Initiative, said in a statement. “That’s why I’m so excited to congratulate the third graduating class of Apple Developer Academy in Detroit. Graduates, you have shown over the past 10 months what is possible when determination and opportunity collide. You have worked to overcome challenges, individually and as a team, and you have created community among one another. You have learned to build apps that can improve lives in communities around the world.”

Detroit residents ages 18 and older are invited to apply for the next session of the Apple Developer Academy at developeracademy.msu.edu.
