Boys and Girls Club learns about robotics at MOSI

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay has partnered with the Museum of Science and Industry and local law firm Phelps Dunbar for a special summer program.

Children from 26 different boys and girls clubs will have the opportunity to learn about robotics at MOSI over the next six weeks.

Students at Foster Elementary School spent Friday doing hands-on activities in the classroom.

“It was great. It was good because we learn something new every time,” said Anaya and Nailah from the Boys and Girls Club.

Little blue robots were added to the curriculum while Phelps Dunbar staff assisted the students.

“It was really great to see the robots at work and to see the smiles on the kids’ faces,” said Bret Feldman, chairman of MOSI and partner at Phelps Dunbar. “These are going to be the people who are going to lead our community in the future, and I think that’s great.”

Feldman said this is the second year the law firm has partnered with the program to teach science, technology, engineering, arts and math to high school students.

“If other companies or businesses want to partner with MOSI or the Boys and Girls Club, this is a great opportunity,” he said. “There are always people in need who could really use their help.”
