YRJ spokesman: We will be the voice and color of truth
The Women’s Press Union (YRJ) in northeast Syria is celebrating its fourth anniversary. Since its founding on June 28, 2020, the YRJ has carried out many important activities and has become an umbrella for women journalists. YRJ spokesperson Arîn Siwêd spoke to ANHA on the occasion of the fourth anniversary.
Arîn Siwêd drew attention to the work of YRJ and said: “Journalists have witnessed numerous incidents related to wars, massacres and attacks that governments carry out against the people. In the years of fighting, 100 journalists have lost their lives, 28 of them in northern and eastern Syria. Despite everything, journalists have continued to write the truth. On behalf of YRJ, I once again remember the martyred journalists. The martyr Şevin Bingöl played a major role in the establishment of YRJ. We also remember her once again.”
On the importance of YRJ, Arîn Siwêd said: “In recent years, we have discussed the role of women journalists in the revolution in northern and eastern Syria, their duties and how they can use their pens to build a political society. We have organized many panel discussions and workshops and are trying to reach out to all women journalists in Syria and the Middle East. This is one of our most important goals for the future.”
Arîn Siwêd added: “We want to change the patriarchal mentality and develop the language of the women’s libertarian paradigm. On this basis, we want to reach out to all journalists in Syria and the Middle East. We promise that with our pen we will follow the path of the free press and be the voice and color of truth.”
